Pilots and pilot boats – provide an essential service to all shipping in Cork Harbour

The pilots and pilot boats of Cork harbour operate today in a world of crunching deadlines, high demand and challenging seas that the centuries have not chastened.

In times past pilots were accommodated on a duty vessel outside of the harbour and had to board approaching ships  from rowing boats to guide incoming vessels safely to their point of anchorage or berthage.

The same dedication of service continues today despite the modernity of the vessels and skills required of their operators.

On the Titanic Trail you will see the building where the Harbour Commissioners managed the harbour traffic on the day RMS Titanic made her last Port of Call in Cork.
