The Titanic Trail Father Browne Collection of Titanic images, brings you “Cobh In Mourning, Flags At Half Mast”.
This image depicts the town of Cobh in mourning for the victims of the Titanic and was taken by Father Francis Browne, studying to be a Jesuit priest at the time. This master photographer was an nephew of the local bishop, Robert Browne, who had given him an unusual present: a ticket for the first two legs of the maiden voyage of the Titanic, sailing from Southampton to Cherbourg and then on to Queenstown (Cobh), Co Cork, Ireland. The Fr. Brown collection is the only visual chronicle of photographs of passengers on board the Titanic at sea and as she left Queenstown to cross the Atlantic for the final leg of her planned trip to New York.
